Program Overview

USDA Home Repair Program is a program intended to serve individuals with home repair needs. It provides either a grant or loan to homeowners. The program is available to lower income people who would rather stay in their present homes but can't afford needed repairs. Nationwide, but only available in rural areas, usually in towns of up to 10,000 population.

Property Eligibility Requirements

Only available in rural areas, in all towns of up to 10,000 population and most towns with less than 20,000 population.

Benefit Details

The government can make repair loans up to $20,000 at a 1 percent interest rate. Grants up to $7,500 can be made to persons 62 years of age or older.

Benefit: Loan amount cannot exceed $20,000. Loans are amortized up to 20 years with a 1% interest rate. Grants cannot exceed $7,500.
